Carol Smith Donovan 


Carol Smith Donovan is the Vice Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party and represents the 7th Congressional District on the State Central Committee. First appointed as a Deputy in 2002, then elected to two consecutive four-year terms as the State Central Committeeman from the 7th CD, Carol has served in leadership roles including Co-Chairman of the Finance Task Force and Chairman of the Audit Committee. 
After growing up in downstate Illinois and graduating from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, she moved to the Chicago area. Throughout her career, Carol developed and owned several marketing and publishing businesses in Chicago and is currently president of Smith & Donovan Confections Inc.

She has played supportive roles in many local, state and federal campaigns, including those of Congressman John Shimkus, Speaker J. Dennis Hastert and Supreme Court Justice Lloyd Karmeier.
Carol was elected as a George W. Bush delegate in 2004 and appointed an At-large Alternate Delegate in 2008.

Carol was a member of the Chicago Chamber of Commerce 2010 Tri-State Delegation to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris. She also served as Illinois liaison for the
U. S. Department of Commerce – National Summit on American Competitiveness.

She is a member of the University of Illinois Foundation and President’s Council and has served on the University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Carol had two grown children and resides in Chicago.
